Know When to Come InKnow When to Come In The Northernmost Animal Emergency Hospital in Maine After-hours care for urgent moments—without the long drive.

We care about Compassion for Pets and Their People Aroostook County is a large region with limited access to urgent and emergency veterinary care. We opened this hospital to help address that gap—making care more accessible by reducing travel time for pet owners and supporting time-sensitive cases. In every emergency, there are two patients: the animal and the person who brings them in. We’re here to care for both.

We provide emergency and urgent care for dogs, cats, and small mammals in Aroostook County and the surrounding region. Common concerns include:
  • Vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite
  • Limping, wounds, or visible pain
  • Difficulty breathing or sudden collapse
  • Toxin ingestion (including household items and plants)
  • Labor or birthing complications
  • Emergencies involving rabbits, guinea pigs, and other pocket pets (call ahead)
What We Treat
We may not have every bell and whistle, but we have what matters most: the tools, experience, and heart to show up when your pet needs help. We’re here to try, to treat, and to tell you the truth—because in a true emergency, you deserve someone who won’t turn you away. Our services include:
  • Digital X-rays and Ultrasound: To quickly see what’s going on inside—whether it’s a broken bone, a blockage, or something harder to spot.
  • In-House Lab Work: We can run bloodwork, check for infections, and get answers fast—no need to send samples out and wait days.
  • Surgical Suite: For situations that need urgent intervention, from foreign object removal to emergency wound repair.
  • Oxygen Therapy and Hospitalization: If your pet needs extra support, we can stabilize them and monitor their care around the clock.
  • Comfort-Focused Housing: Species-specific kennels with soft lighting and built-in oxygen capabilities help animals feel safe and breathe easier.
  • Isolation Room with Its Own Entrance: Designed to protect other patients if your pet might be contagious.
  • On-Site Pharmacy: So you don’t have to hunt down a 24-hour pharmacy in the middle of the night

-Tracie G. So, someone told Hugs there was a new emergency Vet in the area... he decided he needed to check it out. Nothing serious Thank God. Has some pink eye and something going on internally with his eyes. But should be fine. What a blessing this place was! From the phone call with Shawn, the love and attention Shawn and Scott gave Hugs as we waited in waiting room. To the vet tech and the Doctor. They were all so wonderful! I was super happy I didn’t need to drive 2 hours south like normal. Dr Annie is an answer to prayers for Aroostook County! -Jason Q. This place is amazing! Very responsive and informative.
